buying car off craigslist?

Alexander Villas: === I am older than your DAD and read carefully ... 1st you will need insurance (( at your age it is costly..do you have a job to pay the upkeep and insurance?? --- craigslist is ok to find a car and most sellers are straight (( do not buy any car without an inspection by a mechanic )) Call the DMV in your city and ask if you can have a car as the owner at 18 years of age - and tell them that you will be getting insurance ((( learn the rules and ask for an OK ))) ..... find out from the insurance agent if you can be on your own -- responsible and if you should have an accident will that in any legal way involve your DAD [[[[ this may be what POPS is concerned about ]]]]] --- buying a car is all about shopping for low miles and clean car ,,, clean under and trunk ,,,, oil splatter and a greasy looking bottom side of the car indicate bad motor and gaskets ,,,, inspect the car inside and out side and down under = make sure that everything works and ! if what ever does not work can you see that you can fix the problems and replace the parts = drive the car and see that it rolls smooth and quiet and that it does not pull the steering to right or left [[ tracks straight ]] == you must look at the title to be sure that the guy selling you the car is the owner {{ a must do and if the seller has any ""wait a minute or why you ask??? `attitude -- just walk away and do not say anything -- OK }} ==== if the car is satisfactory and you like it check all the lights (( turn on the blinkers Emergency and see that the turn signals work and get seller to step on the brake pedal to see the lights at rear .... pay and drive home happy --- after you get a BILL OF SALE..((must do that, too))...Show more

Coleen Carignan: Craigslist can be, but you should definitely check out the car before just buying one. Also, do some research on the different cars, I know that kbb.com can help a bit. And make sure that you get all the informat! ion about the car that you can, you don't want to be surprised! by something you didnt know about and regret putting your money into it. Good luck on finding your car!

Simona Bulwinkle: Craigslist can be a great place. I would defintely stick with asian imports like Acura, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan or Infiniti. Any of those companies will give you less of a headache in the long run. I would check the vehicle history with CHEAPVINSEARCH.COM its a relatively new company I just came by but very good information. Their vehciel history reports only cost 9.99 compared to 34.99 at CARFAX. Maybe also consider getting a mechanic to check the car out first, $200 spent before buying the car could save you thousands in the future. Also I just heard of a story that someone bought a car of craigslist but it happened to be stolen and they had to return and got no money back so make sure to check the vehicle hisotry....Show more

Renita Sefton: I haveits just like buying a car out of the newspaper

Lilli Kochel: You can look up the value on kelly blue book. You don't need every detail of the car, just the basics and it will give you a rough idea of what the car is worth. I bought a car off craigslist and it has turned out to be a great car. I drove about 2 hours to go see it. But do your research because there are a lot of people out there that will lie to you.

Zora Mazzie: Take the information off http://kbb.com and compare it to what you see on craigslist.Remember, there are scammers out there so if someone says they will ship a 2800.00 vehicle to you for no extra cost, run the other way...Not legitimate.Your ad seem to be for real so, take the info and compare it to http://kbb.comgood Luck......Show more
