Finance can also be the focus of a PhD in business studies. Within this context, finance is money management. Those of us who work in finance tend to focus on particular areas of money management: banking, investment, funding the start up of companies, the ongoing of companies, or the taking apart of companies. In addition, obvious in Dave's answer, entire companies focus their efforts on key concepts of money management, often for other companies or people.Another way to think of finance is a combination of the hard (math) side of accounting with the soft (theoretical) side of economics. If you like numbers, theories, & planning, you might do well in finance.It is also true that, like many things, finance has many levels. At its lowest level it is very simple and does not require much education or bra! in power.
